Description
Oil No. 4 is a bright citrus home fragrance oil with a herb garden running through it. Lemon and sage, sharpened with sea salt, the way a kitchen smells with the window open on a cold morning.
What The Beginning smells like
Lemon leads, but not the polished lemon of a cleaning product. Sage grows through it — dry, faintly bitter, more stem than leaf — and pulls the whole thing away from the fruit bowl and toward the garden. Sea salt does the rest of the work at the top. It is a mineral note rather than a sweet one, and it opens the scent out, so the lemon reads as air moving past it instead of sitting still around it.
Dry wood arrives underneath surprisingly early and takes the edge off. A sweet musk closes the base: soft enough that you stop registering it after twenty minutes, present enough that the room never goes flat. Five notes, arranged so that none of them takes over.
The notes
Top: lemon, sage, sea salt
Heart: dry wood
Base: sweet musk

Where to use this bright citrus home fragrance oil
Kitchens, bathrooms and hallways. The salt and sage are what make it work in a kitchen: herbal notes sit alongside cooking smells rather than fighting them, so the room ends up smelling aired rather than masked. In a bathroom the lemon does the obvious job, and the dry wood stops it going soapy.
Hallways are the underrated one. A bright citrus home fragrance oil is the first thing a visitor notices at the door, and this is a good scent to be met by — clean, herbal, not sweet, not obviously perfumed. If your hallway runs the length of the house, use the full-size system rather than a plug-in; there is enough air movement in a corridor to carry it.
Is The Beginning right for you?
It suits people who find most citrus fragrances too sugary. The sage and sea salt keep this bright citrus home fragrance oil dry, which is unusual in a category where citrus is normally pushed toward orange squash. If you like the smell of a herb pot on a windowsill, you will get on with it.
If you want something plainer, The Tait is one step simpler — sweet orange and cut grass, and very little else, at a lower volume. If you want the same brightness with a floral middle, The Light adds rose and jasmine over a cool oceanic edge. And if none of those are loud enough, The Zest is the full-strength version of this family, with four citrus fruits and a spiced heart.
How to use it
The Beginning is a concentrated oil made for cold-air diffusion, which means no heat, no wick and no flame. It is not intended for reed diffusers, candles or wax burners. Two or three drops in The Wisp Mini covers a single room; the Wisp Fragrance System covers a floor. The 10ml bottle fits the Neom Pod Mini, and a few drops on a Wisp Aroma Stone will scent a drawer or a car with no power at all.
Start low. Herbal notes build in a closed room faster than pure citrus does, so it is easier to add a drop than to air a bathroom out.
Good to know
Every bottle is hand-bottled in Nottingham and sold in 10ml, 50ml and 125ml. A 50ml lasts roughly thirty days at standard use, so most people running one diffuser daily are buying four or five times a year. Vegan and cruelty-free. UK delivery is free over £60 and everything is dispatched within one to two working days.
It layers well with the greener end of the range if you want more herb and less lemon — mix a small amount in an empty bottle first and see how it holds after an hour.
