Original price was: £12.00.Current price is: £8.40.

A soft, powdery bright citrus home fragrance oil: lemon and orange over orange flower and jasmine, settled on musk and marshmallow. Warm-weather citrus for living rooms and bedrooms.

Description

The Desert is the softest bright citrus home fragrance oil we make: lemon and orange over orange flower and jasmine, settled on a base of musk and marshmallow. Bright rather than heavy, and warmer than most citrus gets.

What The Desert smells like

Lemon and orange open it, and for the first few minutes it behaves like any other citrus — clean, sunlit, familiar. What happens next is the interesting part. Orange flower takes over from the fruit, which is a completely different smell to orange peel: white, slightly powdery, closer to a flower shop than a fruit market. Jasmine sits with it and adds a bit of body without turning the fragrance floral in the traditional sense.

The base is where the name earns itself. Musk and marshmallow give it a soft-focus, sun-bleached quality, the smell of heat rather than the smell of a plant. Nothing about it is sugary — marshmallow here means a soft, faintly powdery sweetness rather than a dessert — and the effect is warm-weather citrus for a country that rarely has any.

The notes

Top: lemon, orange
Heart: orange flower, jasmine
Base: musk, marshmallow

The full Bright Citrus family is worth a look if you are choosing between two or three, and the Scent Index will show you every Wisp fragrance built on orange flower, jasmine or musk.

Where to use this bright citrus home fragrance oil

Living rooms, bedrooms and hallways. This is the one citrus in the range that genuinely suits a bedroom, because the powdery base means it does not feel like being woken up. Run it in the evening and it holds the room without going sharp.

In a living room it does something a sharper bright citrus home fragrance oil cannot: it stays comfortable over several hours. Citrus with a hard, bitter top tends to wear thin in a room you are sitting in; orange flower and musk give this one somewhere to go. Hallways work well too, particularly in winter, when it reads as unexpectedly warm against cold air coming in the door.

Is The Desert right for you?

Buy it if you like citrus but find most of it too astringent, or if you want a summer scent that still works in a British January. It is also the one bright citrus home fragrance oil we would suggest for a bedroom or a guest room, where a sharper citrus would be the wrong volume at the wrong time of day.

Look elsewhere if you want something cooler or greener. The Light covers similar ground with rose, jasmine and sea notes instead of the powdery base, and reads brisker as a result. The Zest is the opposite choice entirely — four citrus fruits, green peppercorn and cedar, built to wake a kitchen up rather than settle a living room down.

How to use it

Cold-air diffusion, nothing else. These are concentrated oils for cold-air diffusers, not reed diffuser refills and not fuel for candles or wax burners; the orange flower in particular does not survive being heated. Two or three drops in The Wisp Mini is enough for a bedroom, while the Wisp Fragrance System will hold a whole floor. The 10ml bottle also fits the Neom Pod Mini, and a Wisp Aroma Stone takes a few drops for a bedside table, a car or a suitcase.

Good to know

Hand-bottled in Nottingham in 10ml, 50ml and 125ml. Expect roughly thirty days from a 50ml bottle at standard use. Vegan and cruelty-free. Free UK delivery on orders over £60, and orders leave us within one to two working days.

One practical note: soft, musky scents are easy to get used to. If you stop noticing it after a fortnight, that is nose blindness rather than an empty bottle — switch to something sharper for a few days and it will come back.
